Top 10 Pitch Tips!

  1. Know Your Business - Really, we mean it. Know every aspect of your business so that you don't get caught up on difficult questions from investors.

  2. Grab Attention - As soon you as you can. Most people have the attention span of ants, so if you can't excite them early on, it will be much more difficult to pull them in to your product later on. Find a great quote, hard hitting statistic, humorus anecdote or amazing visual to break the ice and 'reel them in'.

  3. Perfect Pitch Deck - Slides, videos, Prezi, whatever route you take, make them visually stunning. Steer clear of heavy text and just entice with as many images of your product and great graphs to back up your idea.

  4. To the Point - Make it, stick it with it and try not to veer too far away into things that make no sense around your product. The last thing you want to do is frustrate your investors because you cannot explain in clear and concise terms what you are doing.

  5. Be Yourself - Know Your Own Style of Delivery - This means that you comes across as genuine and sincere. Don't try to mimic other presenters' styles, if you feel it's forced, so will your investors. Find what works best for you and hone it until your technique is perfect for you.

  6. Get Professional Feedback - Your friends and family are there to support you and obviously they are going to tell you that your pitch is great; however an objective person can give you in-depth analysis and constructive feedback.

  7. Find Your Voice - Do you know what you sound like when you pitch? Do you speed through, barely catching your breath? The most important things about your vocal is that you are clear, articulate, well-paced, with lots of emphasis on your key parts and that your voice is steady and controlled.

  8. Master Your Body (Language) - When you pitch, remember that you should be giving off signals to your investors that you are confident and comfortable. If you are twitching your hands, jumping all over the place or not making eye contact, it can be difficult for others to pay attention as you might be distracting them from the big idea.

  9. Remember Malcolm Gladwell - Well, actually Malcolm Gladwell states that in order to perfect anything we need 10,000 hours and you probably don't have that to perfect your pitch. That said, you should put the time and effort in to practicing it until your delivery flows smoothly with it.

  10. Enjoy It! - You should be excited and delighted to be able to pitch in front of investors or any audience. If you look like you're having fun, they will lap it up and remember just how good you feel pitching to them.
